Dr. Ian Hodgdon, MD, FACS is an academic general surgeon, educator, and surgical innovator who serves on the faculty of LSU Health New Orleans as Associate Professor of Surgery, Associate Residency Program Director, and Assistant Education Director. He maintains a clinical practice in New Orleans with a focus on abdominal wall reconstruction, robotics, and the treatment of anastomotic leaks, while also playing an active role in resident and medical student training. He currently serves as President of the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons, reflecting his national leadership in advancing minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Hodgdon’s work bridges clinical care, surgical education, and innovation. His research has included hernia repair, anastomotic leak reduction, tissue autografts, and absorbable stent technologies, and he has also held patents related to cancer treatment and hernia prevention. Together, these contributions reflect a strong commitment to advancing less invasive, technology-driven solutions that improve surgical precision, patient outcomes, and the future of operative care.
